ActivForce Advanced

Why is there a paid plan?

ActivForce has always been free to use, and that hasn't changed. The Advanced plan supports the development of new workflow tools for professionals who need them, without affecting the Core experience for everyone else. It's how we continue growing the product sustainably while keeping the foundation accessible.

Do I need ActivForce Advanced to keep using ActivForce?

No. Everything you currently use remains fully available at no cost. Your device, your test reports, and your Core testing workflow are completely unaffected. Advanced is optional and designed for professionals who want additional structure around their testing sessions.

What's the difference between Core and Advanced?

Core is the full ActivForce testing experience: strength and ROM testing, left-right comparison, detailed reporting, real-time data sync, and offline testing. Everything you need to run accurate, objective assessments.

Advanced adds three workflow tools on top of Core:

  • Test Sequences - Save time by standardizing your assessment flow so every test produces comparable data. Set up once, use every session.
  • Assessment Library - Verify positioning or technique mid-test. Protocols and references, right where you need them.
  • Test History - Every session on record. Walk into reassessments with full context, filterable by subject and session name.

Core remains fully available whether or not you use Advanced.

Will my existing data be locked or restricted?

No. Your test reports, results, and Core workflow are always accessible regardless of plan changes. Nothing you had before Advanced will ever be restricted. Advanced features like Test Sequences, Assessment Library, and Test History are available while your Advanced plan is active.

How much does ActivForce Advanced cost?

ActivForce Advanced is $20 per month. Annual billing is not currently available. A free trial is included with every new activation. We accept all major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.

You can view pricing details and activate Advanced from the App & Dashboard page or in the Plan section of your dashboard.

View pricing and activate →

Is there a way to try Advanced before committing?

Yes. If you activate Advanced before May 1, 2026, you'll receive a 60-day free trial instead of the standard 30 days. You can cancel at any time during the trial. After May 1, the standard 30-day free trial applies to all new activations.

Is ActivForce Advanced mandatory?

No. Advanced is entirely optional. Core includes everything you need for professional-grade strength and ROM testing, and will continue to be developed and improved. If the additional workflow tools don't fit how you work, nothing changes for you.

How does the free trial work?

When you activate Advanced, your trial begins immediately with full access to all three features: Test Sequences, Assessment Library, and Test History.

During the launch period before May 1, 2026, all trials are 60 days. After that, the standard trial is 30 days. If you decide Advanced isn't for you, cancel before your trial ends and you won't be charged.

At the end of your trial, you can choose to continue with Advanced or return to Core. Your Core workflow, test data, and reports are unaffected either way. Access to Advanced features ends when the trial ends.

Will the Core plan still be actively developed?

Yes. Core has its own development roadmap and will continue to receive updates and improvements. The Advanced plan adds new workflow capabilities on top of Core. It doesn't freeze or slow down the Core experience. We're committed to improving ActivForce for all users, regardless of plan.

What if my team or organization can't add a paid plan?

Core remains fully available at no cost, and nothing about the Core experience is changing. If you have questions about team pricing or volume arrangements, reach out to our support team and we'll be happy to help.

Can I cancel ActivForce Advanced?

Yes. Cancel anytime - no lock-in, no fees. Your Advanced features stay active until the end of your billing period. After that, your account returns to Core. Your test reports and Core data are unaffected. Advanced features are no longer accessible.

You can manage your plan from the Manage Billing section of your dashboard.

Device Setup & Maintenance

Can I use ActivForce with multiple devices or accounts?

Yes. You can log in to your ActivForce account on multiple devices, and all test data and reports will automatically sync to your single account. Results are collated and viewable through your ActivForce dashboard using the same login used with the app.

How can I connect and begin using my ActivForce device?

For set-up and connection instructions, please check out the user guide.

How do I calibrate/tare the ActivForce device?

Occasionally, you may find that your strength measurements do not seem to read as accurately. If you suspect that this is the case, go to Settings, My Profile, and select Calibrate Your Device.
Do not apply force before or during the calibration. This should stabilize measurement read-outs. If problems persist, please submit the form here for additional support.

How do I change the battery, and how long does it last?

The typical battery life of the ActivForce device is 6 to 12 months, depending on environmental conditions and frequency of use when performing test measurements. For visual reference on how to replace the battery, click here.

How do I swap out the various attachments?

To remove an attachment, grab and twist to the left. To attach a different attachment, align the locking tabs on the attachment with the matching slots on the device, and twist it to the right. This locking mechanism is designed such that the attachments may be fixed at multiple angles. For more information on swapping out the attachments, view the Attachment Tutorial video.

Measurement & Testing

Can I create custom protocols?

Each test series performed with ActivForce can be customized and you may set certain default settings for strength tests. With ActivForce Advanced, you can also save and reuse complete assessment flows using Test Sequences. Set up a protocol once and run it in one tap for every session.

Learn more about Advanced →

Does the ActivForce app include any standard testing protocols?

Standard protocols aren't included in the Core app. With ActivForce Advanced, the Assessment Library provides protocols and positioning references directly in the app, accessible mid-test without leaving your workflow. These are available as part of the Advanced plan.

Learn more about Advanced →

Can I re-do a single measurement within a test series?

Yes, after completing a Strength or ROM test, you'll see an option to either keep your results or repeat the test by tapping "Redo Test." This allows you to retake the specific measurement you've just completed. You can also select ‘…’ in the test summary screen to pull up additional post-test options.

For more details and visual examples, please refer to our User Guide.

How accurate are the measurements?

For force measurements, the ActivForce device is accurate within ± (1.4 lb + 5% of the applied force).
For range of motion measurements, the ActivForce device is accurate within a range of ±1° for angles measured from 0° to 33°, ±3% of the measured angle when > 33°.

How do I measure joint range of motion (ROM)?

Attach the ActivForce 2 device to your client’s chosen limb, ensuring it’s placed over a single joint (not crossing two). Then perform the test as usual in the ActivForce app. For detailed instructions, view our Tutorial video here.

How do I measure joints or perform strength tests with the ActivForce device?

For examples and educational resources, visit our tutorial page here.

We also host webinars with additional insights from professionals who use ActivForce daily in their practice. For more information on upcoming events, click here.

How do I view a client’s force-to-weight ratio?

To view a client's force-to-weight ratio:

  1. Save the report in the app
  2. Open the report on the web dashboard
  3. Tap on "Add/Edit Subject Details"
  4. Input the client's weight
  5. The report will automatically update to display the Force to Weight ratio

How should I stabilize the device/patient to reduce tester bias?

Use the provided straps, belts, and belt loop plate to anchor the device or secure it against fixed objects. Place the device perpendicular and avoid applying off-axis forces.

What is the difference between “make” vs “break” tests, and when should I use each?

In a make test, the subject exerts maximal force against a fixed object (the practitioner resists).

In a break test, the practitioner overcomes the subject’s force to “break” the contraction.

The make test is preferred for more accurate results and safety.

ActivForce supports make tests (the user pushes maximally against the device). Break tests are not recommended for use with ActivForce

What is the sample rate for ActivForce strength tests?

The ActivForce app captures 40 samples per second, providing precise, real-time measurement of force during every test.

What units are supported, can I switch them?

ActivForce supports Newtons, pounds, and kilogram force units. You can switch unit types in Settings on both the dashboard and app.

Managing Data & App Features

Can I sync ActivForce data with third-party health apps?

Currently, ActivForce does not integrate directly with third-party health apps. However, the ActivForce dashboard includes a “Copy Data” feature that generates a text-only, customizable report, which can be pasted into your EHR system or other software. To access this, select a report and click “Copy Data” in the top right corner.

How do I generate a progress report?

To generate a progress report, go to the Dashboard homepage and select “Track Progress.” Choose the subject you’d like to view, and all their tests will be listed automatically. For accurate reports, ensure your subject identifiers are consistent and correctly entered when saving tests in the app.

How do I register and manage my ActivForce account?

You can sign up for an account through the ActivForce app. Please check out the user guide for a more detailed walkthrough.

To change an account's registered email address, please contact us by filling up this form.

How do I save and access patient data?

Client data is not stored within the ActivForce app. However, you can save your test results at the end of the test workflow and access them any time on the ActivForce dashboard at https://activforce.activbody.com/.

How do I update the ActivForce app to the latest version?

If automatic updates are enabled on your device, the ActivForce app will update automatically. You can also visit the App Store or Google Play Store to check for the latest version. We regularly share app and dashboard updates in our Dev Diaries on the News & Updates page.
